Council to Discuss Microchip Mandate - Newtreamz

The article is located here at Newstreamz.

Craig's List

Whoa! Everyone is helping out. People we don't even know getting the word out. I found this story on Craig's List.

"Date: 2009-02-10, 9:01PM CST

I've heard about RFID chips and have always been disturbed by them but now it is hitting close to home. In San Marcos they recently made it mandatory to "chip" your pet aka have RFID chips implanted in them. I'll get back to that in a little bit.

I recently started to listen to a talk radio show hosted by Katherine Albrecht. That day she was interviewing a woman who's dog died shortly after it was "chipped". The woman's dog Charlie Brown was a long haired Chihuahua that bled to death hours after the procedure. There are several people who have lost their pets due to chipping. The cancer is suppose to be caused by radio frequencies from the chips. Which makes sense because you always hear about living too close to radio or cell towers can cause cancer. Why? Because of the high frequencies.

Now back to San Marcos, there is a group called CETI (Citizens for Ear Tattooing Identification) trying to have the ruling removed or amended to make it voluntary. The founder of CETI said "The Tattoos are ONLY a rhetorical device to call attention to the issue. Nothing more."There is a growing number of counties that are putting this law on the books. In LA county if you don't chip your pet it is 6 months jail time for you and/or your spouse. I am still new to this subject so I can't give too many details. I just wanted to write something out to try to get people's attention because San Marcos is right down the road from all of us in the Austin area. Austin area or not who is to say this ridiculous and unreasonable law won't come to your city. If you can please go to protest this tomorrow at the scheduled a public hearing on the ordinance for Feb. 11 at noon in the Grant Harris Jr. Building. There will be another at the beginning of March in which Katherine Albrecht will be flying down from New Hampshire for.

CETI Newstreamz Coverage

The story Newstreamz posted to the front page is online "CETI vs. City in final animal ordinance session."
"Coppoletta said most animals at the shelter aren’t lost, but “dumped” there. She pointed towards the national economic crisis as one of the many factors behind pet owners relinquishing their animals, suggesting the legislation is inappropriate because it doesn’t address that issue."

Past as prologue: How to win a city election - Newstreamz Analyzes 2008 Election

Just recently found this article online at Newstreamz the story provides analysis from the 2008 election.
"Incumbent San Marcos Councilmember Chris Jones of Place 4 easily prevailed against challenger Lisa Marie Coppoletta, receiving 6,168 votes to her 4,925. Jones won by carrying north and south side precincts.

Jones carried the traditionally African-American precinct 111 and other south side precincts 113, 116, and 120. Further, Jones carried precinct 315 and swept the north side, carrying 330, 332, 334, 336 and 446. Jones’s top precincts were, in order, 315, 332, 334, and 336."

Coppoletta carried four precincts, all on the south side - 114, 112, 121, and 110.

Coppoletta’s showing could be attributed to her vigorous campaigning and, possibly, to Narvaiz’ strong showing on the south side. Although the campaigns were completely independent of each other, it is possible that Narvaiz’ presence as a female on the ballot helped Coppoletta as another female candidate."

Social Media Solution to RSS City Slacking

Today the RSS feed was finally corrected.  It had been since July of 2008 since it had been updated to include City Council agendas. ONE day of social media and issue resolved.  Internet activists UNITE!

micro blog via Ping.fm

WHOOHOO FINALLY the city fixed the RSS feed! It only took 1 day via social media to get this issue resolved!

$78,000 spent on city website - NO UPDATES RSS FEEDS for Council Agenda

This issue was raised in ALL of the debates that I participated during my 2008 race for City Council, Place 4.  One would think that this concern regarding posting updated RSS feeds would have been resolved by now.  But, NO.  The RSS feeds are still from July 2008 for the Council Agenda. Here, check the page yourself.  And, this is the main list of RSS feeds for the City of San Marcos.

I can't help but wonder if those TML conferences they attend, which cost the taxpayers so much, ever have RSS workshops.  It literally takes an hour to learn how to create a feed.  Is there someone at city hall with some RSS skills? Where did the $78,000 go? Does the City NOT think the agenda is an important item to be posted online.  This is particularly relevant since the muniAgenda is quite difficult to navigate.
